Spillover From War in Ukraine
On September 6, NATO member Romania reported that parts of a Russian drone fell within its territory. While Romanian officials said a drone crash was not a serious threat, President Klaus Iohannis said if drone parts were found it would be a “serious violation of Romania’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
The U.S. Gains an Anti-Corruption Ally in Central America
Bernardo Arévalo won with 58% of the votes against the former first lady Sandra Torres, who got 37% of the vote. Despite winning the elections, the Semilla (seed) party was temporarily suspended by the Supreme Electoral Tribunal in Guatemala on dubious allegations. The suspension of the party will affect fundraising efforts, and their members elected to Congress will not be able to hold committee assignments.
Protests Erupt at the Eritrean Embassy in Israel
At least 114 people were wounded last weekend after protests broke out at an Eritrean Embassy event hosted in Tel Aviv. In response to the violence, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke out against the demonstrations and demanded the deportation of all unauthorized immigrants from Israel, describing the riots as a “red line” that had been crossed. A proposed bill is now in the works, sponsored by National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, that would override Israel’s basic-law on human dignity and liberty to allow for this mass deportation.

Conflict Over India’s History Fuels Name Change Speculation
BJP officials have argued that prioritizing Bharat over India falls into this de-Anglicization campaign, with one member of parliament arguing that “‘India’ was a name given by the colonial Raj and is thus a symbol of slavery.” However, critics have argued that the renaming push is part of a BJP campaign to redefine India’s history as belonging only to Hindus, erasing Anglican and especially Mughal influences on Indian history.

Other goals focus on issues such as better standards for maternity leave and increased access to sports wellness resources that their male counterparts have. The season will not continue until the federation and the players union come to adequate agreements on these issues.
India’s Moon Landing: Small Step or Giant Leap?

Plans are already underway for a three-day Indian crewed mission in the Earth’s orbit by next year.
Ciudad Juárez, Mexico Experiencing Mass Migration
Ciudad Juárez in northern Mexico “has long prided itself on absorbing waves of newcomers” and has served as a pitstop for migrants aiming to enter the United States. However, it has turned into a permanent hub for those who have been sent back by U.S. authorities or who are waiting to apply to enter the U.S. legally. Part of the reasoning for this influx of migrants to the city is due to a deal that the U.S. Biden administration has made with Mexico – the U.S. can expel Venezuelans, Cubans, Haitians, and Nicaraguans to Mexico in exchange for creating legal pathways for them to pass into the United States.
